Gearhart Area Recreation

    Gearhart Golf Links is one of the earliest courses west of the Mississippi River. Originally laid out by Scotch financier Robert Livingstone in 1891, it features 18 holes, a pro shop, and a delightful McMenamins restaurant called The Sand Trap.

    Enjoy either Gearhart Golf Links or the Highlands Golf Club - both of which are right next to The Reserve. Highlands is a 9 hole executive walk only course while the Gearhart course features 18 holes with carts available. The public is welcome, so choose one and enjoy the afternoon.

    Jump on your bike, and 3 minutes later you are enjoying a refreshing ride along Del Rey Beach. With no commercial development or private ownership for 11 miles, you can take a short spin, or really work it out for an hour or two.

    Fishing charters are available at the Warrenton Marina just north of The Reserve. One can also find such adventures on the Washington side of the Columbia in the famous fishing towns of Ilwaco and Westport.You may also launch your own boat at any of these destinations.

    Nature awaits the outdoor enthusiast, casual or serious. Mountain trails, historical sites, and campsites are nearby. Stunning ocean and beach vistas can be enjoyed at the heights of Tillamook Head - originally named Clark's Point of View in 1805 by the Corps of Discovery.

    Park Birthday Party

     What child would not love to have his or her birthday celebrated on that special day in the Reserve's own park? The picnic tables, barbeques, gazebo, climbing structures and fire pit are all there. Some parents like to add a few inflatable toys as well for the occasion.

     A few miles north is the Warrenton Marina. Fishing charters, sightseeing outings, and boat launching are available.

    Clamming

     Clamming is one of the great beach pastimes - seen here with the remains of the Peter Iredale in the background. It was beached in a storm in 1906 with no loss of life. Failing to re-float it, the owners abandoned it north of The Reserve.

    Outboard Racing

     The Columbia Outboard Racing Association sponsors racing at Cullaby Lake, only 5 miles from The Reserve. A fun family day can be planned for the occasion.

    Sailing Trikes

     Just about any activity can be enjoyed on the beach. Here is a wind powered trike. It looks as if one steers and the other manages the sail.

    Para Gliding

     Para Gliding is occasionally seen on the beach. The powered versions can soar to hundreds of feet above the ground. If you have one, your airfield is 3 minutes away.
