    Bald Eagle and Hawk

Nature favors the strong as an angry hawk chases a young bald eagle away from his planned meal on the beach. Scenes like this are fascinating, and occur frequently with so much protected habitat in the area. 40 acres just east of The Reserve serve this purpose under the ownership of the North Coast Land Conservancy.

    Elk

Seen often in and around The Reserve, the local elk herd enjoys tromping about from time to time grazing on the grass in the park. It is fun to watch them bound over the perimeter fence one by one as the leader selects the next area in which to hang around. They seem to think the entire coast belongs to them.

The North Coast Land Conservancy intends to reintroduce the Oregon Silverspot Butterfly to the area. Classified as an endangered species, it once was found from southwest Washington to northern California. The rare violets necessary to its reproduction grow in the land to the east of The Reserve, and the NCLC plans to place larvae in the area soon to begin the cycle.

Just east of The Reserve are 40 acres owned in perpetuity by the North Coast Land Conservancy. Here is a photo looking north along Neacoxie Creek. This is where the deer, elk, eagles, and assorted wildlife we enjoy come from. All homesites on the east side of The Reserve back to this property with unobstructed views.
